✈️Travel and Expand🌱
Welcome back 👋... It’s been a while Gen-X-ers!
Why is it so easy to get caught up in the daily routine that we fail to witness the "extraordinary" life right in front of us?
Stepping off our ever-rotating "hamster wheel" and being allowed to travel, we are reminded to rediscover and even willingly encouraged to search out life's extraordinary possibilities. With our eyes wide open and eager to absorb new colours, our nasal quivering to discover new scents and our taste buds controlled by our minds whilst ordering from a mouth-watering menu…. Well, I did say travel and… expand 🤣🤣🤣
Of course, the real aim is to expand our minds, our learning, and our comfort zone borders, which are usually kept on a tight leash. New experiences aid growth as we push past the restraints of our boundaries, creating space to absorb the new.
This week I've had the pleasure of island hopping to Fuerteventura for a soul-searching yoga holiday in the sleepy farming village of "Lajares". A neighbourhood bursting with creativity and colour, a welcome intrusion to the backdrop of white-washed traditional Canarian houses. We were based at a traditional farmhouse where simplicity and style had been key during its restoration. Its uneven forms had been embraced and a colour scheme of lavender blue woodwork against the painted white floors and walls gave the air of Greece and Mamma Mia. This carefree holiday feeling was enhanced due to the 7 amazing ladies enjoying the adventure.
The retreat was appropriately called Elements, the island offers: Fire in its rugged raw volcanic mountains, Water from its crystal clear ocean, Earth beneath our feet in its fertile soil and Air from its endless summer breezes.
The aim of our week was to embrace and discover our own mindfulness through, soul searching, giving ourselves time to reflect and the opportunity and space to be ourselves without the usual distractions which fill our daily lives.
Diving deep into your soul brings a full rainbow of emotions, we laughed, cried, and expressed our fears, hopes and dreams. The safe bubble created, kept us bound to each other throughout the week and was highlighted when we took a yoga class on the beach. Our bubble of loveliness embraced us giving us the feeling as if there was no one else around. Just us, the white coral sand between our toes, the heat of the sun on our skin and the music of ocean waves crashing right in front of us. What happened outside our bubble and safety net was unimportant and insignificant.
Our week was a smorgasbord of events; we took part in an array of activities from breath work, yoga, volcanic hikes, horse coaching, meditation and visualisation. When you access this state of mind where living in the moment is key and accessible we thought nothing of experimenting with pool yoga one minute, then, dancing to Madonna’s famous Holiday the next. Our minds were open and our hearts full and we all felt a new inner air of confidence, excitement and joy.
The sky really was the limit and going with the flow seemed to happen naturally.
I am forever grateful to Bellatrix for another amazing week and to all my yogi family. If you are interested in joining one of Bellatrix's yoga retreats get in touch via her web page - www.yogastudioouddorp.nl
While I sit and observe the sun setting for the last time behind the volcano hills, breathing in the sweet scent from the fruit-laden fig trees, I take a moment to reflect on my week. Making time for yourself really does pay off, the more you can invest in yourself to grow and expand the more balanced you can become.
Balance brings peace, harmony and contentment….. when you have this in your life there is little else needed. I walk away from this experience with a true sense of faith in myself and my choices.
Catch up again soon 💜X💜
